Travel to México

The most popular and best reefs for a diving vacation in Mexico are located on the Yucatán Peninsula near Playa del Carmen, the tourist city situated in the state of Quintana Roo, and the offshore island of Cozumel. The second largest coral reef in the world is situated on the east coast of Yucatan and stretches from Puerto Morelos to Honduras. Approximately 18km off the coast of Playa del Carmen lies the island of Cozumel, which offers a variety of caves, tunnels, and coral reefs.

In addition to Bull Sharks, turtles, nurse sharks, and eagle rays, many other tropical fish species can be observed while diving and snorkeling here. Jacques Cousteau discovered Cozumel as a diver's paradise in 1960, and since then, the destination has remained one of the most sought-after diving destinations worldwide.

The cenotes, an interconnected and diveable cave system, are located on the Yucatan Peninsula. The best lighting effects occur from May to September, but the cenotes are diveable year-round.

Baja California is another popular diving destination located on the west coast of Mexico, a must-visit location for any diving trip bucket list. The Sea of Cortez lies on the east side of the peninsula, while the Pacific Ocean borders the west side.

Jacques Cousteau famously referred to the region as the "Aquarium of the World." Divers can expect a variety of diving experiences from La Paz to Cabo San Lucas. In the southern part of Baja California, within the Sea of Cortez, lies La Paz, with the nearby island of "Isla Los Islotes" hosting a playful colony of sea lions. Diving with the sea lion colony is highly recommended, with a maximum diving depth of about 8 meters and guaranteed interaction with the friendly sea lions.

Further south is Cabo Pulmo, known for its large schools of mackerel, and at the southernmost tip of the Sea of Cortez is the peninsula of Cabo San Lucas. From there, diving safaris depart to the best big-fish diving areas, such as the Revillagigedo Archipelago with its main island Socorro.

We've already been to the Yucatán Peninsula ourselves and worked as dive guides there. We've also visited the west coast of Mexico, and we know that it definitely won't be the last time.
